Liberation Day 2008

On Friday 9th May 2008 the Jersey Festival Choir once again participated in the celebrations that remember our liberation from Nazi Germany in 1945. It is becoming a tradition that we strengthen the sound of the singing in the Thanksgiving service and lead the Community singing afterwards when we sing the old wartime favourites like Lilly Marlene, Roll out the barrel and The White cliffs of Dover but this year there was an added element of interest as we also sang the winning anthem entry in the Anthem for Jersey competition Island Home by Gerard Le Feuvre

The choir was actually an amalgamation of many people from other island choirs with the Jersey Festival Choir forming the base as we had been practicing the anthems for several months before this occasion.

It was a colourful occasion!

The hoisting of the Union Jack re-enacted the events of 63 years earlier.
